Unlocking hydrogen’s full decarbonisation potential
Jose Abrantes, Global Hydrogen Market Director at KBR, explores why expert knowledge will be key in harnessing the potential of hydrogen, particularly when it comes to decarbonisation
Amid all the current gloom surrounding hydrogen development, it’s worth remembering approximately 100 million tonnes of hydrogen are produced globally each year, presenting a major opportunity to reduce carbon emissions through new production routes and optimisation of existing assets.
As industries across the globe continue to debate the best routes towards Net Zero targets, re-thinking hydrogen production can enable industrial decarbonisation through its potential to reduce carbon intensity of hard-to-abate sectors including chemicals, fuels, refining and fertiliser production.
However, the successful implementation of such projects – particularly at scale – requires expertise that bridges traditional energy project execution with the specific requirements of this sector as well as critical lessons learned from project execution.
