Up to 140 industrial gas professionals are gathering in the heart of Central Europe ahead of gasworld’s first-ever Europe Industrial Gas Conference in Hungary tomorrow.

Situated in the centre of the Carpathian Basin and at the cross roads of trade routes, it is said that all major European roads and railway lines lead to Budapest.

For the industrial gas and equipment community, all roads lead to the Flamenco Hotel in Budapest over the next two days as it hosts a forum for discussion and debate about the challenges facing the gases business in Europe.

The conference informally begins this evening with a welcome reception and a first look at the more than 20 promotional booths on show at the event.

Day one of the conference officially begins tomorrow morning, opened by gasworld CEO John Raquet and Air Liquide Hungary’s Zoltán Éliás, also Deputy Chairman of the Hungarian Industrial Gas Association (MIGSZ).

Keynote speaker Kent Masters (Amec Foster Wheeler) will then take to the stage for the event’s first presentation, followed soon after by Peter Mackey, Chemical Analyst at Exane BNP Paribas Chemicals. Closing the morning will be an exploration of the sides of the European market – the highly developed West and the young and emerging East – from Raquet and gasworld Business Intelligence colleague James Barr.

Two markets, one goal

The conference comes at a challenging time for the diverse European market. Europe has been a hive of industrial gas activity and has developed in many different ways. Recently, however, economic pressures have led to low growth and many challenges for the industry

It is also a region characterised by two industrial gas markets at distinctly difference stages of development; a highly mature west in the midst of low growth, and a rapidly expanding east that continues to grow from a low base. Both are united by one common goal – growth and profitability.

Therein lies the theme for the conference: Two Markets, One Goal. Over the course of the two-day event, a packed programme of speakers will explore how the industry can stimulate growth and improve performance in Europe.
