Fourth mega-ship delivered in Qatar

Qatargas has named the Tembek Q-Flex LNG transport vessel at a special ceremony, further signalling the arrival of a new generation of LNG mega-ships.

At a special ceremony held at Samsung Heavy Industries Ship Building yard in Geoje Island, South Korea, Naomi Campbell officially named the ship which is the fourth of 45 large LNG ships to be delivered for Qatar.

The Tembek will be used to ship LNG produced by Qatargas 2 to customers in Europe and as one of the new mega-ship generation, has about 40% less energy requirements than conventional vessels due to the economies of scale created by their size and efficiency of energies.

Mr Al-Khulaiji, chief operating officer, commercial and shipping, commented, “Today is the first such ceremony in Samsung Heavy Industries for Qatar’s new fleet of Q-Flex LNG vessels and we are proud to be celebrating this achievement with OSG, SHI and all the people who have contributed so much more to this project a reality.”
