Independently owned medical gases company, GASMEDI, officially opened its brand new medical and industrial gases facility near Zaragoza yesterday.
Chairman Alfonso Fierro greeted staff, customers, the media and guests to the special event. It marked the first greenfield investment for the company and the first project to comprise an Air Separation Unit (ASU) as well as an industrial gases and separate medical gases cylinder filling facility.
Located in Epila, a few kilometres from the important regional city Zaragoza, in the North West of Spain. The site was officially opened by President of the Aragon Region and Deputy of the Socialist Party in Spain, Marcelino Iglesias. He commented on his delight to open the new facility which heralded good news at a time of a harsh economic climate being felt both by the region and the country as a whole.
The facility comprises an Aspen 1000 (30 tpd) ASU supplied by Cosmodyne in the US which produces liquid oxygen to medical grade standards, as well as liquid nitrogen. Furthermore, a tank farm of six cryogenic storage vessels surrounds the ASU and was supplied by local tank manufacturer, Ros Roca Indox.
Guests, which included the Mayor of Epila, the owners of GASMEDI as well as the President of Aragon, toured the facility and were shown the “state of the art” medical filling facility which is already operational.
Commenting on the new facility, CEO of GASMEDI Jesus Escudero stated, “This is an important investment for the company as we designed this facility specifically to cater for the future. We picked the location as it is approximately 300 km from Barcelona, Bilboa, Madrid and Valencia and will act as our major production hub from now on”. He went on and said, “We are also about to complete the industrial gas filling facility which will greatly support our initiatives in this part of the gases business.”
