The addition of a second vice-president to the associations board of directors received unanimous approval by GAWDA membership when the motion was introduced at the association’s 2018 Spring Management Conference (SMC).

Bob Ewing, President, Red Ball Oxygen Co. Inc., Shreveport, Los Angeles, who has been serving as a GAWDA board vice-president, was selected for the new position.

GAWDA President, Ned Lane, discussed the change at a business session during the 6th-8th May SMC. He said that adding the officer to the Executive Committee helps advance the planning schedule for the association’s two annual conferences. It is the duty of incoming GAWDA presidents and their event committees to select conference locations, therefore the added timeframe should help them obtain the most desired locations and dates with fewer restrictions. It also provides those in-line to serve as president, more time to acclimate to the role through extended service on the Executive Committee, he said.

To accommodate the change, the position of second past president eventually will be phased out, Lane said.

The updated slate of 2017-18 GAWDA officers now includes:

  • Ned Lane, Cee Kay Supply, of St. Louis, Mo., as President
  • Brad Peterson, Mississippi Welders Supply Company, Inc., of Winona, Minn., as President-Elect
  • Abydee Butler Moore, Butler Gas Products, of Pittsburgh, Pa., as first Vice-President
  • Bob Ewing as second vice president
  • Mark Raimy, of Welders Supply Company – A Raimy Corporation, of Erie, Pa., as first past president
  • Bill Visintainer, of Atlas Welding Supply, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., as second past president.

Seven other GAWDA members currently serve as association vice-presidents. They are:

  • Evan Bennear, of Dale Oxygen Inc., of Johnstown, Pa.
  • Kelly Bladow, of Oxarc Inc., based in Spokane, Wash.
  • Jay Brant, Indiana Oxygen Company, Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Jeff Johnson, Arc3 Gases, Dunn, N.C.
  • James O’Connor, of Norton/Carborundum, of Duluth, Ga.
  • Melissa Perkins, of Electronic Fluorocarbons, of Hatfield, Pa.
  • Bill Proctor, of Nexair, headquartered in Memphis, Tenn.

In addition, David Walker, of Clearwater, Fla. serves as GAWDA’s treasurer and Richard P. Schweitzer, of Washington, D.C., serves as general counsel.
