The Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) has raised a total of $187,000 in this year’s GAWDA Gives Back programme.
The funds raised will be equally distributed between Neighborhood Place, a family strengthening program in Maui that offers drop-in support service to local families, and the Boys and Girls Club of Maui, which provides safe, positive neighborhood youth centers with afterschool and summer programs for children ages 9-17
The Neighbourhood Place of Wailuku’s CEO of Child & Family Service, Howard Garval, was overcome with the donation, “We are in awe of the compassion of this group of business leaders from around the country; their transformational investment in a community in which they are considered guests is a true example of the Aloha Spirit in action.”

Current GAWDA President Bill Visintainer and his wife Debbie Visintainer presented the cheques on stage at the opening session of GAWDA’s annual business session at its 2016 Annual Convention in front of 800 members and guests.
Visintainer said the funds “will provide much-needed resources to keep service programs going strong, and by doing so, will provide hope, healing and much-needed support for worthy people who are striving for positive futures despite significant life challenges.”
The programme dates back to 2000 with GAWDA members contributing a total of $1.98m to community causes over the past 16 years. Two dozen organisations in 13 different communities across the US have received funding through the initiative.
