Glatfelter acquire Praxair’s low-NOx technology

Praxair will supply Glatfelter with its patent-pending low-NOx (oxides of nitrogen) combustion system.

The technology will be installed at two pulverised coal boilers at Glatfelter’s pulp and paper manufacturing facility, Spring Grove in Pennsylvania.

Praxair’s advanced combustion system consists of proprietary oxygen and injection techniques to enhance combustion efficiency and reduce formation and emissions of NOx, which contributes to the formation of smog and acid rain. The technology was co-funded by the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory.

Construction will begin in April 2005 with the system scheduled to operate during the 2005 ozone season.
