Following the news that Cryolor would be setting-up a cryogenic gas storage equipment plant near Chennai in India, gasworld can reveal that construction at the new site is now underway.

News of the planned facility has been in the headlines not once but twice, originally back in January 2008 and again in recent weeks - with Cryolor now pursuing its original investment scheme 'without any scale-back'.

Furthermore, construction is now underway. The leading cryogenic equipment manufacturer celebrated its ground breaking ceremony for start of construction on 23rd April 2009, at the site of the purpose built, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility near Chennai (Madras).

Renowned for its high quality products used in the storage and transport of liquefied cryogenic gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon and LNG, Cryolor has been servicing the demand of its global customer base from its plant in France since 1983.

In 2007, the company decided to establish a new manufacturing facility in India - in order to consolidate its existing domestic base in India, and to be closer to a regional customer base in both South-East Asia and the Middle East.

Quality & customer focus
Cryolor Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of Cryolor SA, with the French company opting for Chennai due to its higher quality infrastructure, proximity to the Chennai port complex, and also the availability of skilled man-power in the greater Chennai region.

The first phase of the new plant is expected to be operational by early 2010, producing a wide range of cryogenic bulk tanks. The second phase, expected a few years later, will include an additional plant to manufacture complimentary product lines that Cryolor is well known for.

Ravin Mirchandani, Managing Director of Cryolor Asia Pacific, enthused, “Our customers know us because of the quality niche we are known for. We expect to be able to provide the same quality from our new plant in India.$quot;

He added, “We intend to manufacture a broad range of products in India in the years to come. The new facility will be Cryolor’s lead supply facility for our customers in India, the rest of Asia and the Middle East. We are excited about the opportunities this site will offer and look forward to working even more closely with our customers in the region.”

Mike Blondin, Global Sales Director for Cryolor, enthusiastically added, “During a year of a global economic slowdown, Cryolor continues to remain optimistic about the health of the Indian economy and therefore is pursuing its original investment plans without any scale back.$quot;

$quot;Cryolor Asia Pacific will reinforce Cryolor’s position as a world-class supplier to our customers.$quot;
