A landmark agreement has been signed between H-Energy and Petrobangla for commencement of a re-gasified LNG (R-LNG) supply to Bangladesh through a cross border natural gas pipeline.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on the 16th June 2021, comes after authorisation by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), the regulatory body in India, to build a natural gas pipeline that connects H-Energy’s LNG terminal in West Bengal to enable cross border supply of R-LNG into Bangladesh.
H-Energy’s Kanai Chhata-Shrirampur pipeline is the only pipeline to be laid cross-border into Bangladesh to have received authorisation from PNGRB.
Speaking about the agreement, Darshan Hiranandani, CEO of H-Energy, said, “This is a key milestone in the future of Indo Bangladesh energy cooperation.”
“I am grateful to the Government of Bangladesh, the team at Petrobangla and the various governmental agencies of India, whose unstinted support has made this happen.”
“Our objective is to deliver environmentally friendly, safe, and economical energy to the state of West Bengal and to Western Bangladesh.”
The LNG source and R-LNG supply will be handled by H-Energy’s wholly owned subsidiary, HE Marketing Private.
Once within Bangladesh, the R-LNG will be supplied by Petrobangla to gas based power producers and other gas consumers.
