A Key Technology for Marine Structures 

Three main types of underwater welding have been in use for many years. Wet underwater welding, which uses manual metal arc welding (MMA), is the most common process. Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) has been widely used in the former Soviet Union. And friction welding, which has the advantage of being relatively insensitive to depth, lends itself to robotic operation and has the potential for use in deep water repair.
