Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT®), a worldwide specialist in weld purging products, has manufactured a PurgeGate® Valve System in order to prevent the over-pressurising of inflatable tube and pipe weld purging systems.

During the welding process, inflatable dams are at risk of overinflating as the heat caused by the procedure rises, potentially causing them to burst.

If a rupture occurs, the purge is lost and the weld will immediately oxidise due to the incoming air, causing the whole welding process to start again.

These new valves have been designed to prevent such events and sport a plug and play design with a push fit connection, which can be moved from system to system as required.

Earlier this month, HFT unveiled its HotPurge® Inflatable Pipe Purging System, to prevent the oxidation of extremely hot welding zones. This system has been manufactured as standard with the PurgeGate valve system, preventing excessive rates of gas flowing through and relieving pressure on the inflatable dams.

Weld purging is the act of removing oxygen (O2), water, vapour, and any other gases which may be harmful to a welding joint, from the welding environment. If these gases penetrate the environment, they may combine with the metal to form unwanted compounds which may reduce corrosion resistance or create structural defects.
