Hobart Brothers Company is preparing to celebrate a milestone in 2017 few companies have the privilege to achieve — their 100th anniversary. With a history rich in innovation and determination, it was the forward-thinking of the three generations of Hobarts that laid the foundation for the company’s success during the industrial age — and it’s that same thinking that continues to drive its growth and its technical expertise in the filler metal business. 

Formally trained as a lawyer, founder C.C. Hobart’s real passion was electricity. After gaining employment at the Edison Electric Illuminating Company in Middletown, Ohio, and meeting Thomas Alva Edison himself, the experience set in motion a series of business ventures that led to the eventual incorporation of Hobart Brothers Company by Hobart, his wife Lou Ella and their three sons, Edward, Charles, and William. 

Hobart’s first endeavor was the founding of the Hobart Electric Company, where they manufactured Dynamo electrical generators to produce power for the paper mills in the area, a booming industry in the late 1800s. Built in Middletown, the company eventually moved to Troy, Ohio, in 1895, where the family made its home and where Hobart Brothers Company was founded and still remains.
