HTEC (Hydrogen Technology & Energy Corporation) is continuing to roll out Canada’s first network of hydrogen refuelling stations, revealing plans for its latest two stations in British Columbia at the Vancouver International Auto Show.
As part of a collaboration with international convenience-store chain 7-Eleven, HTEC will build one station in North Vancouver this year and another next year in Victoria, Vancouver Island, operated at 7-Eleven sites where Esso-branded fuel is sold.
These stations are part of the six-station network HTEC is building to support the rollout of the first 1,000 zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in British Columbia (BC). There is currently one station open in Vancouver and one under construction in Burnaby.
Colin Armstrong, HTEC’s CEO, said, “We couldn’t lead the roll out of Canada’s first network of hydrogen refuelling stations without strong relationships with companies supporting the drive towards clean transportation.”
“The stations we build with 7-Eleven will expand HTEC’s hydrogen refuelling network considerably. Whether it’s travelling across the Strait of Georgia and fuelling up on Vancouver Island, or hitting the North Vancouver station on route to Whistler, HTEC’s collaboration with 7-Eleven has expanded the possibilities for FCEV drivers to travel beyond Metro Vancouver and explore other parts of the province.”
Doug Rosencrans, Vice-President and General Manager of 7-Eleven Canada, added, “Reducing our impact on the environment is an important priority for many of our customers, and a strategic imperative for 7‑Eleven globally.”
“Now, working with HTEC, we are exploring innovative hydrogen refuelling solutions that continue to reduce our carbon footprint while meeting the evolving transportation needs of our customers.”
