There will be at least a million hydrogen powered vehicles in India by 2020, according to Union New and Renewable Energy minister Vila Muttemvar.

Speaking at the International Bio-fuels Conference in Brussels, Muttemvar announced that a National Hydrogen Energy Road Map had been formulated for the introduction of a hydrogen economy and India is also looking at co-operation in fuel conversion technologies.

Commenting on the bio-fuel scenario in the country, he described bio-fuels as an integral part of India's National Energy Policy and noted that the effective implementation of the bio-fuel programme would go a long way toward reducing the country's dependence on oil.

$quot; We look forward to working with the European Union and all participating countries for achieving our bio-fuel aims and targets,$quot; Muttemvar said.
