Hynix Semiconductor wins joint venture plant in Wuxi

The Korean firm, Hynix Semiconductor, has recently completed construction of a hi-tech semiconductor plant which was undertaken by Wuxi Industrial Development Group. The facility is located in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Construction was underway in July 2009 while trials began in March 2010.
The works boasts a production capacity for 1 gigabit (Gb) DRAM, offering a level of 100m units. Due to its large output the plant employes approximately 1,600 members of staff and anticipates annual sales of over $300m.
Although only a recent venture, the journey began in 2005 when Hynix Semiconductor founded a local production company in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. By amalgamating the new company to the pre-existing one, the group has established a production system in China for both pre and post processes.
The combined effort is hoped to enable reduction in the cost of fabrication and distribution. Not only will this benefit the consumer, but it will also improve the company’s financial situation. Earlier in the year, Hynix Semiconductor realised some of its resources by selling the fab in Incheon to Hi-Tech Semiconductor for $300m. Already anticipating its opening, some key industrial gas companies have moved into Wuxi, where the plant is situated. These include Air Liquide and Praxair.
