All roads appear to lead to growth in the welding and cutting business of 2016, with some sources projecting substantial growth through to 2020 as equipment demand from the energy, automotive and construction industries increases.

North America and Europe will remain significant established markets, but the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) group of countries are expected to record much of the regional growth, with India and China in particular thought to hold the key to future market trends in welding and cutting equipment due to their high rate of industrial growth.

Developments in hardgoods and consumables will not only be driven by regional growth expectations, however, with a number of trends underway in terms of technology challenges and customer demands. The need for ever-greater flexibility, mobility, productivity, and cost reduction are all dynamics driving improvements in technology, while more companies have also turned to welding automation in recent years to increase productivity, quality and lower costs.
