Invaluable valves: Part 3. It’s a check valve! A primer

0

Valves are used all along the industrial gas and cryogenic gas supply chains – from production and transportation, transfill operations into storage containers, and end-use customer piping circuits. Three categories of valves used are: 1) valves that isolate product flow, 2) valves that control the flow of a gas or liquid, and 3) valves that regulate pressure or flow, or relieve excess pressure. These include globe, gate, ball, diverter, needle, butterfly, pressure relief and diaphragm valves; and regulators.

Part 1 of this primer discussed two types of flow control and isolation valves: globe and gate valves, and discussed their basic components, how they function, and their general applications (see gasworld US Edition, February 2022, page 24-27).

Part 2 discussed the same topics for ball valves, as well as over-all valve design considerations, materials of construction, components and features, installation considerations, and general maintenance (see gasworld US Edition, March 2022, page 40-44). In Part 3 we will learn about the various types of check valves, how they work, where they are used, and how they should be installed.
