Japanese energy company JERA is to work with Philippines-based power group Aboitiz Power Corporation (Aboitiz) to explore power projects that utilise ‘new generation’ technologies including liquefied natural gas (LNG)-to-power schemes.

The partners plan to work together to source and manage the LNG required for planned LNG power plants, in addition to exploring opportunities for ‘green’ power generation using fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen.

With the Philippines highly reliant on imports, Satoshi Onoda, President, JERA, recognised the need to continue a supply of clean energy to the Philippines.

He said, “JERA will contribute to further development in the Philippines by both supporting the stable supply of energy in the country and contributing to an expeditious, cost-competitive roll-out of clean and renewable energy while taking into consideration the unique circumstances of the country.”
