Welding gas and products supplier Weldamax has appointed a new CEO following the acquisition of the company by South African industrial gases company Air Products.

As the largest company in Air Products’ distributor network, Weldamax supplies a range of welding related products under its trade name Unique Welding.

The acquisition is part of Air Products’ aim to diversify into the welding market while continuing to grow its presence in the industrial gas sector.

“The acquisition will enable us to further strengthen our market share, leverage resources and knowledge, and to provide a one-stop gases and welding product offering to our customers,” commented Rob Richardson, Managing Director, Air Products.

Having led Air Products’ finance department for several years, Gaetano Perillo will take on the role of Weldamax’s new CEO.

“Gaetano has been a valued member of Air Products’ Finance team for years, and with his leadership skills and experience, he was an obvious choice,” added Richardson.

“He understands the industrial landscape and is meticulous when it comes to business practices and maintaining a high level of integrity.”

As a recipient of several internal quality awards, Perillo aims to use his experience to take Weldamax’ performance ‘to new heights.’

He commented, “I know that I will face challenges in my role as CEO, but I am confident that my years of experience will be of value, and I will mitigate them as I am confronted with these challenges.”
