The weakened welding machines and equipment market could be set for an unlikely boost, if funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's State Energy Programme is anything to go by.
It seems that the development of new solar and wind projects could spark production of associated welding solutions, even on the slightest of levels.
How do we know this? Leading US welding equipment and consumables company Lincoln Electric witnessed Ohio Governor Ted Strickland announce that 25 Ohio solar and wind projects will receive more than $13m in grants funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s State Energy Program.
The announcement was made at Lincoln Electric’s Automation Center of Excellence in Cleveland last November, highlighting the company’s welding solutions for wind tower fabricators.
Among the projects, $1m was awarded to Lincoln Electric to help install a wind turbine at its Cleveland manufacturing facilities. The plans call for a 2.5-megawatt turbine that will generate approximately 10% of the electrical needs for Lincoln’s Cleveland manufacturing operations.
“We are excited to have this opportunity under Ohio’s energy program to demonstrate the value of wind energy by investing in our own installation,” said Lincoln’s Chairman and CEO John Stropki.
“This project is a continuation of other Lincoln environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs and green initiatives currently under way in our manufacturing operations to improve our costs and protect our environment. Not only will the wind project provide long-term benefits by reducing our energy costs, it will also showcase the unique benefits that Lincoln products and welding solutions provide to wind tower manufacturers to improve their quality and lower their costs.”
Meanwhile, Lincoln Electric has also introduced its 2010 Equipment Catalogue, with a new look and an online 'fast-flip' eBook version.
The online catalogue features intuitive, book-like navigation, ensurng Lincoln’s entire product line is more easily accessible. With its fresh new appearance and easy navigation, the catalogue displays all of Lincoln Electric’s key products - including the 108 new products and accessories introduced over the last year to help its customers reduce costs, increase quality and improve productivity.
The new catalogue showcases the company’s wide selection of power sources, welding consumables, accessories, automated solutions and environmental systems.
