Linde EOX Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Linde Malaysia Sdn Bhd and a member of The Linde Group, is collaborating with Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak (JKNS) to provide medical gases and upgrade related facilities to all public hospitals in the state of Sarawak.
Lim Chwee Foon, Head of Healthcare Asia Pacific for Linde, said, “We are excited about the growth of the healthcare industry in East Malaysia. Linde has just started construction of a new air separation production plant in Bintulu which will double our supply capacity in East Malaysia. When completed, a third of the gases produced at this plant will cater to the increase in demand from hospitals in this region.”
She added, “At the same time, we are looking to invest further in upgrading related medical gases infrastructure in the hospitals. Linde will introduce new medical products and solutions, as well as training and development programmes which will support the national objective of improving public access to high quality healthcare.”
Through this collaboration, Linde will introduce its proprietary digital technology which monitors the real time usage and supply of medical oxygen (O2). This will help to optimise productivity of healthcare resources and increase operational efficiency, which will bring significant benefits to hospitals and patients.
Later this year, Linde plans to introduce CONOXIA®, a new medical O2 product that is packaged in an innovative, light weight cylinder with the Linde integrated valve to East Malaysia. Weighing under six kilograms, the cylinder is the lightest medical O2 cylinder available in Malaysia.
Medical gases such as medical O2 and nitrous oxide (N2O) are essential lifelines for all the hospitals as they are used extensively in intensive care units, operating theatres, and emergency rooms. Linde’s investment in the upgrade of medical gas equipment and facilities will help public sector hospitals achieve a consistent standard in the daily use and management of medical gases as well as assurance of product quality, which is GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) compliant.
The event was attended by YAB Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Johari, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Sarawak, Dr. Jamilah Binti Hashim, Director of JKNS and representatives from the public healthcare sector.
gasworld Senior Business Analyst, James Barr, commented, Linde is well positioned within the Malaysian gases business, holding a leading market share of around 55% in 2015. Sales of medical gases amounted to approximately $50m in the same year.
