The Linde Group will continue its hydrogen (H2) commitment to the Shell Eco-marathon series in the US leg of the tournament later this week.

Linde North America Inc. will be the sole supplier of H2 fuel and technology expertise at the Make the Future Detroit festival, which features the Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition.

The Tier One corporation will provide H2 cylinders to the teams competing with H2 fuel cell-powered vehicles and a dedicated Linde technical team will be on hand to provide technical support.

Linde will also showcase its HYMERATM H2 fuel cell generator for the first time in the US at the event. The technology, which is said to be the world’s first high-efficiency, portable type of its kind, will charge mobile phones with H2 energy throughout the tournament.

Shiela Eggert, Head of Talent Management for Linde Americas, highlighted, “For Linde, the Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition represents an excellent opportunity to connect with and inspire the next generation of American engineers and innovators. As the most economically viable clean energy fuel in on display at the 2017 Shell Eco-marathon Americas, H2 continues to earn recognition for its potential to boost the US economy.”

This will be the company’s seventh consecutive year of exclusive H2 support for the event. Last month, Linde served H2-powered teams at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia tournament in Singapore.

The Shell Eco-marathon, which holds annual competitions in Asia, the US and Europe, challenges student teams to design, build and drive the world’s most energy efficient vehicles. The Americas event takes place at the Cobo Center in Detroit from 27th-30th April.
