Linde Gas LLC has announced the plans to build and operate an on-site hydrogen steam methane reformer at the Shell Chemical LP plant in Mobile, Alabama.
According to Crain\\$quot;s Cleveland Business newspaper the plant will take natural gas, combine it with high-pressure steam over a catalyst and crack it to make hydrogen, which is purified and sent down a pipe to customers.
The company expects its fourth on-site hydrogen generation plant in North America to launch in November 2007.
Gene Allen, a Linde Gas vice president, said: 'This project marks a significant extension of Linde's focus of being a world-class design, engineering and construction company to an owner and operator of the plants we build for the refining industry.'
The size of the investment was not disclosed.
