Linde lifts Macy’s parade balloons

0

Linde North America, a regional division of The Linde Group, is set to uphold a longstanding link with Macy’s this thanksgiving.
For sixteen consecutive years, Linde has been part of a unique partnership with the renowned Macy’s department store. Since 1994 Linde has been the sole provider of helium to inflate the giant balloons that sail over the streets of New York City lifting the spirits of people, young and old, and marking the official beginning of the holiday season. This is Macy’s 84th year producing the Parade.
Pat Murphy, President of Linde North America, remarked, “The Parade is America’s most recognisable Thanksgiving event. It has become an institution that people across the country and around the world look forward to enjoying year after year. Linde is proud of its longstanding partnership with Macy’s and we look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
The fruits of Linde and Macy’s collaboration will be displayed on Thursday 25th November in the streets of New York City, where 15 giant balloons, 43 novelty ornament balloons and 27 floats will mark the special occasion.
John Piper, Vice President of Macy’s Parade Studio, commented, “Our giant helium character balloons – including two new balloons this year, Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Kung Fu Panda™ – are the signature of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. And our 16-year partnership with Linde gives us the helium that’s crucial to bringing our world-famous balloons to life.”
The helium used to fill the balloons will make a very traditional journey to its New York destination. Originating from crude helium located in America’s heartland in Texas, it will then travel by pipeline to Linde’s helium production facility in Otis, Kansas. The final stage will then see it turned into a gas and compressed into four high-pressure tube trailers that will arrive in New York ready for the festivities.
