Foster Wheeler AG’s Indian subsidiary, Foster Wheeler India Private Limited has won a significant LNG contract for a project situated in Tamil Nadu, India.
The contract encompasses the supply of a new LNG receiving terminal, which will be built in Ennore, India. At this time an agreement value has not been disclosed, but the sum will be included in the firm’s fourth quarter 2011 bookings.
Awarded by India’s national oil company, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the scope of work includes basic design, front-end engineering design, and the preparation of capital and operating cost estimates for the new LNG import, storage and regasification terminal. In addition, Foster Wheeler’s subsidiary will also undertake marine studies to enable the IOCL finalising of jetty locations, utilities and regasified LNG send-out facilities.
The new facility is scheduled to process five million tones of LNG per year and is expected to be complete between 2015-2016.
As LNG occupies approximately 1/600th the space than in its gaseous state, it can be stored and transported by specially designed LNG carriers, cryogenic road tankers or railroad tankers. Fundamental across all of these applications, are LNG pumps. Read more about LNG pumps here.
