McPhy has announced that it has been granted exclusive distribution rights in Europe for SimpleFuel™, the all-in-one hydrogen refuelling station recently developed under a US Department of Energy (DOE) initiative.

SimpleFuel™ is a turnkey, compact and affordable refuelling station developed by McPhy and its partner Ivys Energy Solutions in co-development with PDC Machines in the US, under the auspices of the US DOE’s $1m H2 Refuel H-Prize contest.

Launched in October 2014, the competition was devised to challenge American innovators to develop small-scale hydrogen generation and refuelling systems to promote the introduction of zero emission Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV).

The SimpleFuel consortium was awarded the winner of the contest in January (2017) by the US DOE Fuel Cell Technologies Office and the Hydrogen Education Foundation. As a compact all-in-one station, SimpleFuel covers hydrogen generation, compression, storage and distribution for mobility.

This genuine ‘energy hub’ is a fully integrated hydrogen generation, compression, storage and dispensing system capable of delivering 5-10 kg per day of product at pressures up to 700 bar.

Beyond the activities of the H-Prize, the consortium is working together to commercialise the product to address fleet opportunities in the material handling and automotive industries. McPhy has now revealed that it has entered into an agreement with Ivys Energy Solutions as the exclusive distributor for Europe.

SimpleFuel has already been certified by the DOE and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and will be adapted to European standards. It will be distributed in Europe exclusively by McPhy and produced at its San Miniato plant in Italy.

“We are very pleased with the agreement that has been concluded with our US partner, Ivys Energy Solutions. We have worked closely over the last two years on the technological and industrial development of this revolutionary hydrogen refuelling station combining performance, affordability and accessibility,” said McPhy Chairman and CEO, Pascal Mauberger.

“With SimpleFuel™, hydrogen is simple than ever. Easy to install, all-in-one and user-friendly, SimpleFuel™ will contribute to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen infrastructures. Our solution will in this way facilitate the widespread adoption of zero emission mobility while making possible to monetise renewable energy surplus.”
