When the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic began to take hold, businesses across the globe confronted how this would impact their products and services. Luxfer – one of the world’s most trusted producers of high-pressure composite and aluminium cylinders – was quick to assess the implications for its life-protecting, lightweight medical range.

Given that Covid-19 affects the respiratory system and access to oxygen therapy was headline news, an avalanche of interest was possible. More than 15 million Luxfer-manufactured medical cylinders are already in use internationally, in hospitals, clinics, homecare and care home settings, where there is a need for ambulatory (standalone) oxygen solutions.

Commentators detailed scenarios of crippled worldwide healthcare systems, with a prediction that patients could be transferred to homecare environments to free up hospital beds. These people would potentially require portable oxygen delivered through high pressure medical cylinders, which accounts for around 20% of Luxfer Gas Cylinder’s European business.
