Middle East LNG supply to grow

Qatar’s trade with Belgium, predominantly LNG supplies, is set to grow further as Qatari gas enters through the Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium and the country’s gas distribution network widens.

Exports from Belgium to Qatar amounted to €200m in 2006 and exports from Qatar to Belgium totalled only €73m during the same period, while Rudi Thomaes, CEO of the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium, noted that the Zeebrugge terminal is being used for gas supply to a variety of European destinations.

“The terminal is becoming really the central point for gas distribution in the whole of Europe,” Thomaes said.

“Qatari gas has indeed an important value and volume that will be developing in the years to come. Today we are ramping up LNG supplies to Belgium and what we will see in the future is the steady increase of LNG supplies.”
