Qatari shipping company Nakilat has taken delivery of its third of four liquefied natural gas (LNG) newbuild carriers to be delivered to Global Shipping Co. Ltd., a joint venture between Nakilat and Maran Ventures Inc.

Built by South Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), the ‘Global Sea Spirit’ vessel has a carrying capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and uses fuel efficient X-DF engines.

Boasting lower carbon emissions, the LNG vessels all have lower boil-off rates and are equipped with onboard reliquefication units.

With an aim to gain a ‘greater competitive edge’ in the dynamic energy transportation sector, Abdullah Al Sulaiti, CEO Eng., Nakliat, said, “This will further solidify our position as a globally leader in the LNG shipping and maritime industry.”

“Moreover, it will significantly contribute to our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and operate in a sustainable manner as we continue to grow our global shipping portfolio.”

Having been strategic partners for many years, the two companies will continue to work together with the final newbuild LNG carrier due for completion by 2022.
