Spain-based energy company Naturgy has achieved a significant step in its commitment to lower emissions by delivering the first carbon neutral liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo in Spain, in addition to offsetting associated carbon emissions.

Onboard the Castilo de Mérida, the LNG arrived at the Barcelona LNG terminal from Qatar.

By offsetting its emissions with carbon credits, the company reduced its carbon footprint in a transaction equivalent to the removal of 15,300 vehicles from urban traffic over a one-year period.

This is a continuation of Naturgy’s carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction aims, which, last year, saw a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction of 7%.
