NEL Hydrogen and RTS Africa Engineering have teamed up to bring hydrogen (H2) solutions, via the electrolysis method, to the African continent.
RTS is a Tshwane-based engineering specialist and is the sole agency for leading global H2 technology company NEL in sub-Saharan Africa.
I am pleased that NEL Hydrogen has entrusted us with local service and support. Our customers expect a 24-hour service and we have been able to fulfil that requirement.
The African corporation was the first of NEL’s representatives to become a service agent, with Ian Fraser, Managing Director of RTS, explaining, “Service at a distance - in this case Norway - can be a challenge. I am pleased that NEL Hydrogen has entrusted us with local service and support. Our customers expect a 24-hour service and we have been able to fulfil that requirement.”
The Norway-based company produces electrolysers for large-scale H2 production, as well as for H2 storage of renewable energy and has installed more than 500 electrolyser units around the world.
NEL has been active in South Africa for a number of years and has established a long-term relationship with RTS as its partner in servicing and overhauling electrolyers within the continent, and further afield.
In Africa, NEL has installed units in Kenya, Egypt, Algeria and Nigeria, and a further two in South Africa. Its production plants usually have a long life span of up to 40 years.
Eric Dabe, Sales Director at NEL Hydrogen, explained, “The technology itself is very simple, stable and safe, providing a reliable, ongoing supply of H2. The only ‘maintenance’ required is an overhaul of the electrolyser cells, which is recommended every eight years.”
“With the backing of many decades of continuous improvement in electrolyser technology for the production of H2, at a minimum life-cycle cost, we can offer our customers in Africa expert advice, service and support through our local partner, RTS Africa.”
