Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser has received a $3m purchase order for a two megawatt (MW) containerised Proton PEM® electrolyser from Hydrospider, an affiliated company of Swiss hydrogen company H2 Energy.
The electrolyser will be used to produce green hydrogen for heavy-duty hydrogen trucks from Hyundai Motor Company.
Hyundai and H2 Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September (2018) to provide 1,000 heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks and an adequate supply chain for renewable hydrogen over a five-year period beginning in 2019.
The Nel ASA division received the order as part of a 30MW framework agreement which represents the first phase of 60 to 80MW needed to supply hydrogen for the total expected 1,000 trucks and other applications.
The purchase order represents the first containerised MW Proton PEM electrolyser delivered by Nel in Europe and it will be installed during the second half of 2019.
David Bow, Senior Vice-President of Nel, said, “Hydrospider will be producing and delivering green hydrogen for the Hyundai heavy-duty hydrogen trucks in the required quantity and quality. It is a great pleasure working with H2 Energy, whose core values around clean energy and de-carbonization align so closely with ours.”
H2 Energy is working together with various partners to establish a nation‐wide network of hydrogen stations and corresponding supply chain in Switzerland.
The company’s target is to develop solutions for application of renewable hydrogen in the maritime, rail, stationary sectors, in addition to hydrogen‐powered commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses.
H2 Energy is focusing on producing only renewable energy-based hydrogen to contribute to the decarbonization of various sectors.
