Fuel cell specialist AFC Energy PLC has appointed Jim Gibson to its Board of Directors as Chief Operating Officer with immediate effect.
The new addition will bring his extensive experience in operational management and business development in the chemicals sector to the AFC Energy team, as it prepares to ramp up the commercialisation of its alkaline fuel cell system.
CEO Adam Bond described Gibson as a “strong catalyst” and stated, “His direct experience in the chemical and industrial sectors drive an increased focus and relevance of AFC Energy’s leading alkaline technology and fuel cell systems to that expected from our commercial, strategic and project partners.”
Over the last four months, Gibson has played a leading role in AFC Energy’s product development and business development capacity, overseeing and managing project opportunities and operational development.
He said it was an extremely exciting time to be joining AFC Energy as it continues along its trajectory to becoming a fully commercial and world-leading fuel cell company. “I’m confident that a significant market opportunity is opening for AFC Energy’s fuel cell and look forward to supporting the company’s stated aspirations for 2017 of project development and technical success and beyond,” he added.
Prior to joining AFC Energy, Gibson amassed almost 30 years’ experience in operations management and business development roles for the engineering contracting sector, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region. He previously held well-respected positions at both Foster Wheeler and ThyseenKrupp Industrial Solutions.
