GOFA Gocher Fahrzeugbau GmbH, a Chart Group company, has successfully undergone a transition in management of late that saw Heinz Janssen ‘pass the torch’ on to Thilo Wenath.
Originally formed to produce chemical tank and dry bulk trailers with carbon or stainless steel and aluminium vessels, GOFA expanded its expertise and product range through the decades and is today one of the largest European players in tanks and mobile cryogenic products.
For more than a decade GOFA has also supplied aluminium inner and outer vessels for cryogenic tanks.
GOFA had been a family-owned business since its inception in 1962, but following the death of founder Heinrich Janssen in 2003, three of his children owned and managed the company. Due to age reasons, two of the three siblings wanted to retire, but didn’t have a successor within the family, and the decision was taken to sell GOFA to Chart Industries through a structured M&A process.
August 2011 saw GOFA become part of the Chart family.
As part of a formal ceremony, Janssen recently stepped back from his position as technical managing director of GOFA and transferred his tasks to his successor, Wenath.
As a representative of the Chart Industries Group, Hans Lonsain, Head of Europe of the Distribution & Storage business unit, also gave a speech during the ceremony and emphasised that the integration process – as well as the generation change at GOFA – were successful mainly due to the efforts of Janssen. Lonsain expressed his sincere gratitude for many years of excellent cooperation.
During his farewell speech, Janssen explained his great thanks especially to the staff for many years of an excellent cooperation. He pointed out that he will not completely leave ‘his’ GOFA, but remain in the company for the future too as a ‘restless retired person working part-time’ and taking care of product development and employee training.
Wenath, working in the company since 1996, also explained his gratitude for a ‘more than good’ cooperation and acknowledged Janssen’s technical expertise – reflected by the good market position of GOFA.
