Described as great news for exhibitors and visitors alike, Messe Essen has confirmed it is to implement the modernisation of the fair site as planned.
The site is home to a number of key trade shows and events, including the Schweissen & Schneiden world welding fair.
The next Schweissen & Schneiden welding trade fair will take place on 22nd September 2017; Messe Essen is aiming for a ground-breaking ceremony for the redevelopment project in spring 2016.
With the reconstruction project, Essen will provide one of the most state-of-the-art exhibition centres in Germany, a reconstruction that allows for ‘cutting-edge exhibition conditions’ in Essen.
The modernisation measures will not only be architectonically genuine eye-catchers but will, above all, fully meet the exhibitors’ and visitors’ demands on a modern fair site, organisers said.
Modernisation features include ‘inviting’ entrance areas, a spacious and completely one-storey hall structure in a consistent look and feel, and the latest technology. Five new, large hall areas with optimised logistics are planned instead of the 14 existing small-scale halls in the north part of the site, while in the east entrance area the conversion also makes provision for a modern glass foyer with an area of around 2,000m².
The concept also includes the creation of additional rooms in the area of today’s foyer, in order to widen the available range of conference and congress. It is understood that up to €90m is being invested in the redevelopment.
A breaking ground ceremony for the construction project will take place on 2nd May 2016.
“The modernisation is an important step towards making our fair venue attractive and competitive,” said Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen. “The new plans will create a fair venue which will more than satisfy all the requirements of our current and future fair portfolios.”
