Mauritius-based manufacturer of gases and related hardgoods Les Gaz Industriel (LGI) has recently opened a new showroom as part of plans to provide a one-stop service to its industrial and medical customers.

The showroom will be inaugurated today by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection, with a number of customers, stakeholders and suppliers in attendance.

The new self-service concept showroom displays all LGI products and assortments and can facilitate the order and delivery process, acting as a workshop at the disposal of its visitors for the demonstration and testing of equipment.

The LGI story began over 60 years ago when the company was originally incorporated in Mauritius in April 1952 as a private company with the core aim of producing oxygen and acetylene for metal cutting and welding purposes.

Eleven years later, African Oxygen Ltd (Afrox) acquired a majority stake in the business and, by reason of this new expertise, LGI seized upon the opportunity to hugely diversify its activity into a wide range of products. LGI now manufactures, sells and delivers medical and industrial gases in bulk and in cylinders, as well as welding electrodes.

As a result, the company enjoys a growing market share in the Mauritian market and abroad.

gasworld understands that LGI is planning to expand its sales into Africa’s emerging markets, thanks to the privileged location of Mauritius (Indian Ocean – Africa) and the various Trade Agreements such as COMESA, SADC, COI between African countries, which offer duty free benefits and encourage investments in Africa.
