While gasworld conferences is in Singapore putting the spotlight on the South East Asia industrial gases business, news is in from Bangkok, Thailand about a change to the country’s leading gases company.
Thai Industrial Gases Public Company Limited (TIG), a member of The Linde Group, has now officially rebranded as Linde (Thailand) Public Company Limited (Linde Thailand).
The brand change from TIG to Linde is part of a global programme to position the companies within The Linde Group under a single Linde brand. It follows a similar move earlier this year that saw MOX-Linde Gases officially rebranded as Linde Malaysia (January 2012).
The announcement also comes after Linde Thailand revealed in July (2011) that it would be investing Bt 3.5bn in a new air separation plant in the Eastern Industrial Estate (EIE) at Map Ta Phut, Rayong. The new plant will be the largest liquid air separation plant in the country, capable of producing 800 tons per day of liquefied gases, once it is commissioned in September 2013.
In Thailand, Linde is the leading gases company, with the most comprehensive industrial, specialty and medical gases product portfolio and largest direct sales network across the nation.
Keerin Chutumstid, Managing Director of Linde Thailand, said of the rebranding exercise, “Today we celebrate a momentous milestone in our company’s history. We are proud to become Linde in Thailand, and aspire to significantly expand our business in the future.”
“With the strong backing of our parent company The Linde Group,” he continued, “we will actively continue to introduce innovative and technology-led solutions that will add value to our customers’ businesses, and in turn contribute to further economic progress in the country.”
Mr Bernd Eulitz, Regional Business Unit Head for Linde’s gases business in South & East Asia added in a statement, “The Linde Group is very positive about the many opportunities we see in Thailand. We will continue to invest in this important market to further extend our supply and distribution capabilities, and ensure we are well positioned to support our customers in their growth and investment plans here.”
gasworld understands that the brand change officially took place on 22nd June, where 250 of Linde’s Thai employees donned the Linde corporate colours and gathered at the Wellgrow plant, a major PGP site located outside the Thai capital of Bangkok, to witness the brand change ceremony.
After formal speeches, a marching band led employees to an open space, where around 200 members of the team formed the word ‘TIG’, and then ‘transformed’ to ‘Linde’ (see above photo). Present at the celebrations were Sanjiv Lamba, Member of the Executive Board of Linde AG, and Keerin Chutumstid, Linde’s Country Head for Thailand.
The event was also broadcasted ‘live’ to all major sites across the country to involve the majority of Linde Thailand’s 900 employees to join in the celebrations and the company hosted a press conference that afternoon to communicate the brand change to the industry and marketplace.
