VRV Asia Pacific has reached another milestone by obtaining ASME U, U2, and S Stamp certifications after meeting ASME’s guidelines for the design, fabrication, inspection, and testing.

After obtaining ISO 9001:2008 certification by Lloyds, this is regarded as the next biggest achievement in quality certification.

Both ISO and ASME certification were achieved in a short space of time since operations started in India in late 2009.

In order to obtain the ASME U-stamp certification, VRV Asia Pacific underwent extensive inspections of internal procedures and fabrication processes at several levels of the organisation. This certification by ASME reiterates the stamp of excellence and VRV’s ongoing commitment to its quality assurance programme and the processes and products manufactured at VRV’s facility near Chennai, the company says.

VRV Asia Pacific, based near Chennai in Southern India, designs and manufactures cryogenic equipment. Established in early 2008 in Sri City DTA near Tada, Andhra Pradesh, the first vessel was dispatched to customer in March 2010. Currently the products manufactured at the facility are: Standard Cryogenic Tanks (Eagle); Engineered Cryogenic Storage Tanks; Mobile Equipment – Semi-Trailers and Rigid Tankers; and Cryocyl - Cryogenic Liquid containers of capacity 990 litres.

“VRV is proud to have obtained the ASME certification which is a logical step to our quality assurance policy that will soon include AS 1210 certification for the Australian market and KGSC Korean Registration – Certificate,” said Hussin Mohd, General Manager of VRV Asia Pacific.

Global relevance

ASME’s codes and standards are used throughout the world. The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is the pre-eminent international standard, a code of construction consisting of 30 individual books covering a range of pressure retaining equipment—including power boilers, stationary pressure vessels, transport tanks, and nuclear power plant components.

The BPV Code is developed and updated annually by close to one thousand volunteers and staff. It is a consensus code hammered out by individuals from a wide range of perspectives, expertise, and experience. Conflicting views are debated in an open forum, and avenues are provided for grievances to be heard.

It is a standard which grew to become referenced by all US states and Canadian provinces as a means of demonstrating compliance with safety laws and regulations, and is now accepted in more than 100 countries for the same purpose.
