Spacelabs Healthcare, a world leader in patient monitoring, diagnostic cardiology, and anaesthesia delivery systems, has chosen to incorporate the advanced Paracube Micro oxygen sensor from Hummingbird Sensing Technology into the new Arkon anaesthesia workstation.
While most workstations use traditional electrochemical cells to monitor delivered O2, Spacelabs specified the use of a non-depleting imbedded oxygen sensor to monitor and control the oxygen concentration delivered to the patient.
By incorporating the non-depleting paramagnetic technology used by Paracube Micro, the Arkon not only delivers class-leading performance but gives an exceptional lifetime cost-of-ownership for Spacelabs customers.
The Micro’s non-consumable design ensures longevity and eliminates the costs associated with the regular replacement of electrochemical cells, as well as the recognised problems of cell degradation when in use or kept as a stock item.
As the Micro’s paramagnetic measurement stability also eliminates the requirement for frequent calibration, Arkon users will avoid the recurring labour and downtime costs incurred when a traditional cell is calibrated or replaced.
The use of the Paracube Micro in the Arkon highlights the developing relationship between Spacelabs and Hummingbird. This follows the successful incorporation of the Hummingbird Pm11116 oxygen analyser into Spacelabs’ Multigas analyser, an anaesthesia gas module designed to complement Spacelabs’ new Xprezzon patient monitor.
Previewed at the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) and MEDICA at the end of 2011, the ARKON has received clearance under Section 510(k) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is scheduled for release during 2012.
