Airgas Inc. today announced it has acquired the assets and operations of Northeast Gas Technologies Ltd, an Albany-based distributor of industrial, medical, and specialty gases and related supplies, effective as of 1st March 2008.
The acquired business, with five locations in upstate New York and Vermont, generated $10m in revenues in 2007 and the acquired operations have been integrated into Airgas East, one of the regional companies within Airgas. The operations include a headquarters and industrial fill plant in Albany, New York, with branches in Vestal, Ithaca, and Hyde Park, New York, as well as Rutland.
“We are excited to welcome all 48 Northeast Gas Technologies employees to the Airgas East team,” said Fred Manley, President of Airgas East.
“In the last dozen years, Rusty Baker and his team have expanded the gas and rent mix of their business, including industrial, bulk, specialty, and medical gas. We look forward to working with them to serve customers more effectively in all these areas,” he added.
Northeast Gas Technologies traces its roots back a half-century, when in 1976 Donald Baker purchased the business and his son, Ross ‘Rusty’ Baker took over the business in 1996 and expanded its scope dramatically. In 2001, it opened a modern cylinder fill plant, showroom, and corporate offices in Albany.
Rusty Baker, who will assist in the transition of the business, commented himself, “I want to thank the Northeast Gas Technologies employees for their excellent service and our many customers for their loyalty through the years.”
Meanwhile Airgas, Inc. is highlighting its ‘Engineering the Right Solutions’ approach at the 2008 Pittsburgh Conference (PITTCON) being held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Centre in New Orleans, from 3rd to 6th March.
The new customer-focused initiative concentrates on engineering customized solutions to the needs of analytical and life sciences laboratories, leveraging Airgas' broad range of solutions in specialty gases, high-purity gases, precision blends, liquid nitrogen, bulk gases and safety equipment.
Jim Muller, Senior Vice President for Specialty Gases and Life Science, explains, “At Airgas, engineering the right solution for a customer is not simply about delivering molecules, products, and equipment. Finding the right solution means working one-on-one with our customer, leveraging our expertise and experience in specialty gases and life sciences, and constructing a program designed to solve the complex problems the customer may face.”
