Demolition of the old US headquarters of Airco Industrial Gases, BOC Gases and Linde Gases, in Murray Hill, New Jersey began on 11th December.
Many talented former and current gases industry employees worked in the building over the years and its demolition will put to rest one of the final remnants of Airco Industrial Gases, early leaders and pioneers in the industrial gas industry.
The above photo will surely give rise to a feeling of nostalgia for many who passed through this building during their careers.
Airco Industrial Gases moved to the building as its new US headquarters in November 1978. Earlier that year, Airco had been acquired by The BOC Group, plc, but the Airco name was retained for a number of years.
When Linde acquired BOC in 2006, the 575 Mountain Avenue building became Linde’s US headquarters. The building has been vacant and fallen into disrepair in recent years since Linde moved its US headquarters to Bridgewater, New Jersey in 2016, with the relocation of 450 employees. The Bridgewater office has been US headquarters for Messer since 2019.
A 55 and older community named Lantern Hill will be expanding onto the property of the old Airco, BOC and Linde office in Murray Hill.
