Osaka Gas Chemicals and CarboTech AC GmbH are extending their exclusive distributorship for Shirasagi grade carbon molecular sieve (CMS) products for the regions of Europe, Middle East, CIS and the Indian subcontinent by another seven years.

The cooperation between the companies bundles the expertise and technical know-how of two major players in the CMS market. CMS products have been used for decades for the production of high-purity nitrogen (N2) by the PSA-technology.

Both companies have developed the N2-PSA market and provide CMS for demanding customers with a sense for both, performance and quality. The cumulative competence in CMS intellectual property is additionally supported by research activities with universities and joint product designs with international key customers from China, Europe, Japan, and the USA.

Applications of PSA-based N2 generation

If N2 is properly purified, its technical applications are numerous. Some of the key applications of high-purity N2 by PSA technology are heat treatment and laser cutting in the metal industry, packaging in the food industry, inertisation in the chemical, electronic, glass, oil&gas, and steel industry, as well as safety applications in the marine and off-shore industry.

Biogas Upgrading

Thanks to the unique properties, CMS’ can also be used for the kinetic separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from methane. The use of CMS’ for the purification of biogas is a rapidly developing application in many countries worldwide. In multi-bed PSA units, the biogas is upgraded to natural gas quality – a very economical process achieving excellent methane yields.

New CMS grades just launched

Recently, Osaka Gas Chemicals and CarboTech AC GmbH launched the latest grades of Shirasagi CMS products exhibiting substantial improved kinetic properties. Shorter cycle times will enable more compact units, a reduced consumption of compressed air will benefit the operational costs. Both companies are expecting the new CMS grades to become a game changer in the CMS market for existing as well as developing applications. Some of the advantages of the new products are:
