Parker has introduced its P1D-H rod lock pneumatic cylinders for applications where safety is critical.
P1D-H cylinders have been purposely designed to hold loads safely in position even when there is an unexpected failure in the compressed air supply.
With this special functionality, the P1D-H represents an essential safety component in static applications that require extra safety for the protection of both objects and workers.
Available in bore sizes from 32 to 125mm, the P1D-H range offers a separate rod lock unit flange mounted to the front end cover of the cylinder. The impressive locking force is provided by the cartridge (through which the piston rod passes), which is mounted transversally in the rod lock unit. When there is no signal pressure, the force from the internal springs pushes the ‘over-the-centre’ mechanism to lock the piston rod using jaw clamps.
It is important that the piston rod has come to a complete standstill before the rod lock is activated to avoid damaging the sharp edge of the jaws. Similarly, the lock should be fully released before the piston rod starts to move again. This can be achieved by exhausting the signal pressure of the rod lock.
Clearly, the Parker P1D-H is designed for dry piston rod applications. Any grease, lubricant or coolant liquids will only serve to reduce performance. It should also be noted, that a P1D rod lock cylinder must not be used as the only safety component in any application.
Modular process instrument mounting system offers simple and reliable single-source installation solutions for plant engineers. The new system complies with Shell’s influential MESC specification and includes two and four valve manifolds, and wide range of accessories.
