Gasworld’s American sibling, Specialty Gas Report, took the opportunity to catch up with Pfeiffer at this year’s recent SemiCon West held in San Francisco, US.
During the conference, Pfeiffer Vacuum showcased its new series of magnetically levitated turbo pumps. Dubbed ‘HiPace M’, the German company’s pumps operate at speeds of 300, 700 and 800 litres per second, achieving high compression ratios for all gases.
Pfeiffer’s Product Manager for high vacuum pumps, Edward Ho, explained that the company was introducing the new five axis ‘mag lev’ pump for a number of reasons, including meeting the needs of customers in the solar and semiconductor industry where gas purity is critical and $quot;even a speck of hydrocarbon is a big no-no.$quot;
The pumps are able to operate in harsh industrial environments. Using mag lev technology means that the bearings never wear out: $quot;they just run forever and there is no wear in parts,$quot; says Ho. This makes the pumps dependable over the long term in applications ranging from the analytical industry to coating and semiconductor technology, as well as in R&D and other industry situations.
Pfeiffer also offers flexibility with pumps specifically customized to user’s needs. Ho explained, “We have a standard pump base model and we look at what you need and we can change the pumps to suit different applications.”
