The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy — Pittcon — is the premier annual conference and exposition on laboratory science. Co-sponsored by the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh, Pittcon 2014 is being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, which is situated squarely in the center of the country. This is a global event with co-programming of presentations from scientists representing more than 90 countries and international services available onsite.

Pittcon offers opportunities to learn from technical experts, evaluate vendors and suppliers, and network with scientists from around the world. Discover solutions to all your laboratory challenges from leading companies and from 30 countries. Get a first-hand look at cutting edge innovations being used in your industry, and innovations that will help your lab run more effectively and efficiently.

Attend sessions focusing on environmental science, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, life science, nanotechnology, food & beverage, and much more! With more than 2,000 technical presentations, you can concentrate on your special discipline or gather exposure to diverse technologies.

This year, there are 31 facilitated sessions during Conference week covering topics in life science, chromatography, environmental science, fuel, analytical methods, lab procedures, quality control, and more. These unique networking opportunities begin on Sunday, March 2 and run through Wednesday afternoon, March 5, and are open to all registered conferees at no extra cost. The informal two-hour sessions bring attendees with similar interests together to discuss, resolve problems, and brainstorm new concepts.

Conference Networking Chairwoman Jane Chan commented, “These sessions are an excellent resource for collaboration. We continually get feedback from our Conference Networking participants of how new relationships formed as a result of attending a session develop into an integral part of one’s scientific network.” She added, “The discussions seem to continue long after the conference has ended.”

The 2014 Technical Program includes over 2,000 presentations offered in symposia, oral sessions, workshops, awards, and posters. This year’s program covers a wide range of applications such as biotechnology, biomedical, drug discovery, environmental, food science, fuels/energy, lab management, nanotechnology, polymers/ plastics, and regulations.

Pittcon 2014 provides an opportunity to meet industry experts, colleagues, and world-renowned scientists and network with +18,000 attendees from around the world. Professional recruiters are also on hand at Pittcon explaining the latest jobs in the industry. Mingle with them, as well as hiring managers, and browse employment openings. If you are looking for a new career opportunity, make sure you come prepared to showcase your best qualities to potential employers.

Proceeds from Pittcon fund science education and outreach at all levels, kindergarten through adult. Pittcon donates more than a million dollars per year to support the financial and administrative costs for various science outreach activities including science equipment grants, research grants, scholarships and internships for students, awards to teachers and professors, and grants to public science centers, libraries, and museums.

Keep an eye out for our Pittcon 2014 review, which will be appearing in the next issue (Second Quarter 2014, Volume 17 No. 2) of Specialty Gas Report.
