Speciality gases and technologies supplies firm Praxair has acquired the Buffalo-based company Mills Welding & Speciality Gases in an undisclosed deal.

The company has been doing business with Mills for several years and employs 42 people, also with other stores based in Niagara Falls and Hamburg. It operates a filling plant, acetylene plant, warehouse and two stores and has been owned by Wayne Bacon for almost 25 years, since 1983, reporting sales of $10m last year.

Bacon noted that his company and the Praxair division have similarities, as well as some things each other doesn't presently do. Whilst Mills manufactures acetylene, Praxair makes some specialty gases that his company does not and such a deal should make for a strong combination.

In a statement, Wayne Yakich, president of Praxair Distribution said, $quot;We have a great opportunity to integrate the experience, skills and knowledge of Mills Welding into [Praxair Distribution] in order to build an even stronger business serving customers in north western New York and Southern Ontario.$quot;

Praxair Distribution currently consists of five divisions and Mills is expected to join the division based in Brampton, Ontario.
