Praxair India has commissioned a VPSA (vacuum pressure swing absorption) plant to supply gaseous oxygen to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).
The plant has a contractual capacity of 106 tons per day and will be stationed at the Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG-1) plant at the Hazira petrochemicals complex within RIL.
Oxygen supplied by this VPSA plant will go towards increasing RIL\\$quot;s production capacity of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) by enrichment of air. In addition to improving the production capacity of PTA and VCM plants, the VPSA oxygen will reduce manufacturing costs for Reliance.
Praxair had earlier in 2003 supplied a similar VPSA unit for Reliance\\$quot;s MEG-1 plant. "Reliance again chose Praxair India as the supplier because of their compact plant, proven technology, excellent safety standards, and synergy with the existing VPSA-I plant," said Mr R I Damani, project manager, RIL.
"We are delighted with the confidence Reliance has placed in Praxair to deliver the highest levels of service and safety standards," said Mr. John Panikar, managing director for Praxair India. "Praxair\\$quot;s patented VPSA plants are extremely cost-effective and reliable and ideal for customers, who need speedy implementation," he added.
Praxair India\\$quot;s other recent commissions include an 875 MTPD plant for Tata Steel at Jamshedpur, two 2,500 MTPD cryogenic oxygen plants for Jindal Vijaynagar Steel Ltd. and additional plants for Kalyani Steels, Saint Gobain Glass India and Haldia Petrochemicals. Praxair has also installed innovative non-cryogenic on-site plants for customers such as Usha Martin, Timken, Epcos Ferrites and Sundaram Fasteners.
