Praxair, Inc. has again been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World and North American Indices (DJSI) for the 14th consecutive year.
The company is the only US-based firm in the chemicals sector to be selected for the World DJSI for 14 consecutive years. Praxair also scored first among US chemical firms overall.
DJSI selections are based on an in-depth analysis of a company’s sustainable development practices, including corporate governance, risk management, innovation, environmental management and strategy, supply-chain standards, and safety and labour practices.
Emphasis is also placed on industry-specific risks and opportunities.
Praxair helps its customers worldwide to improve their environmental performance, while minimising its own use of resources and maximising its environmental, economic and social contributions.
This was again reflected in the DJSI as its evaluation included Praxair receiving a top score of 100% for Materiality, confirming the company’s best practices for sustainable development are in areas that are relevant to the business and investors, while Praxair’s eco-portfolio – which consists of applications that bring environmental benefits to customers – was recognised for generating 33% of the company’s revenue (or $3.5bn) in 2015. Additionally, Praxair technologies enabled at least two times more greenhouse gases (GHGs) to be avoided per year than were emitted in all of the company’s operations.
Praxair’s Chief Sustainability Officer Dr. Riva Krut commented, “Praxair is proud to once again be named to the DJSI indices, recognising our commitment to global sustainable development practices.”
“Sustainable development is ingrained in our culture and is a key component of the business goals that drive the success of our company. Our achievements in such areas as safety, innovation, environmental stewardship and community engagement could not have been accomplished without the focus and dedication to excellence of our employees around the world.”
