While monitoring gas levels is an essential aspect to safe handling in the industrial gases sector, there are a growing number of avenues for gas detection and monitoring in mainstream industries.
Indeed, the technology solution provider, Radio-Tech was recently lauded for its environmental monitoring system which is specifically designed for the workplace.
The Ecosense device, which monitors temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels and energy use in the workplace came about through a contract between Radio-Tech and The Built Environment Experts (BSRIA). It began when BSRIA required a robust data logging system that met the requirements of various specifications, including the Energy Saving Trust’s ‘Monitoring energy and carbon performance in new homes (CE298)’. The firm responded by creating the Ecosense.
Alan Gilbert, Instrument Solutions Rental Manager at BSRIA explained, “Radio-Tech offered equipment that could be tailored to our needs, which had the additional benefits of being unobtrusive, simple to install and featuring a long battery life.”
Indeed it wasn’t just the contractor who was impressed, when Radio-Tech took home the award for best product innovation at the Innovation and Sustainability Awards, held in London.
The awards ceremony ran in concurrence with the Energy Solutions Expo 2010, and saw the Ecosense achieve the accolade of best product in the category for workplace-centered devices.
The judging panel described themselves as, “particularly impressed by Radio-Tech as it seemed such a simple idea, very useful and easy to use. Those three factors were crucial; energy measurement is the starting point for carbon reduction and making the workplace more efficient – Radio-Tech does exactly that and allows FMs to make the decisions based on the measurements.$quot;
Gilbert from BSRIA offered an encouraging response to the announcement. He said, “I am sure this award will be the first of many.”
