RasGas Company Ltd. has recorded a helium (He) delivery milestone after delivering its 5,000th cargo from its Helium-1 plant in Doha, Qatar.
This achievement reinforces Qatar’s position as one of the world’s leading He producers and exporters and marks a key moment in RasGas’ optimisation of the Middle Eastern country’s North Field resources.
The plant commenced production in 2005 and has a designed production capacity of 700 million standard cubic feet (MMcf) per year. Production currently stands at more than 500 containers each year.
Khalid Sultan R. Al Kuwari, Chief Marketing and Shipping Officer of the company, highlighted, “Qatar has two key advantages as one of the most prominent helium exporters. First, our liquefied natural gas (LNG), and thus He, is derived from multiple upstream projects, positioning us as a reliable choice in the market and setting us apart from single-source suppliers.”
“Second, our multiple LNG trains and two helium plants make Qatar uniquely flexible in our production capabilities.”
Futhermore, RasGas has recently been awarded its necessary agreements to construct its Helium-3 plant, which is set to come on-stream in early 2018.
